How I spent my Saturday morning
Feb. 16th, 2008 01:26 pmI went to exchange a pair of pants at Kohls that have been sitting in my back seat since January 8th. Was supposed to be in and out - no muss, no fuss. Of course they still didn't have a pair in my size in black... so... I shopped. 2 shirts, 2 sweaters and a (different) pair of black pants later... not too bad $36 for all that plus 3 new holiday themed hand towels for the downstairs bath...
So then it was off to Walmart - needed household cleaners, personal care items and general food staples... plus I had coupons... Knew I should have gotten there earlier - as I was wandering through 'bathroom cleaners' the helpful voice came over the intercom announcing all Valentines items were now ninety - that's right 90 - percent off.
I honestly thought I had left the white trash behind when I left Arkansas... no such luck. Some guy bought 2 carts full of stuffed animals. And some random woman bought everything else: napkins, plates, bowls, gift bags, plastic serving bowls, candles, stickers, little tin buckets... 'Cause it's 90% off!!
But the absolute best part... was my cashier, bless her heart... the register wasn't automatically deducting the 90%... the cashiers had to in put the actual price. She told the woman in front of she's have to wait until she got a calculator. Undaunted, the woman checking out whipped out her cell phone and was doing the math and giving the cashier the cost of the items. She was right 75% of the time.
Finally a supervisor was waved down and the cashier again demanded a calculator of her very own... The supervisor explain she just needed to take 10% of the sticker price and input that - no need to subtract 90% from the figure... bless her heart, that poor cashier had the blankest look on her face...
ETA - I did also go to Dunkin Donuts to start off this little adventure... so it started off well enough
also, Ann... I checked the coding of this journal and it was set to 'tiny' - hopefully this is better?
